We consider the showstopper for Easter 2016 to be the ‘Crème de la Cream Eggs’ which are pictured above. The eggs, available from 29th February, are sold as a quartet – two milk and two dark – and will be abstractly and individually hand painted. Housed in the milk chocolate eggs is a silken Strawberry and Champagne cream made with pieces of real dried strawberries, whilst the dark eggs are filled with a smooth Buck’s Fizz fondant. Fortnum’s own celebrated champagne is used to create each cream, the recipes of which are entirely exclusive. There are so many wonderful delights at the egg bar; exquisite jewel-coloured foils with house praline, milk, dark, white and ganache eggs in an array of flavours – raspberry, mandarin, caramel and crème brulee. Other eggs are speckled and decorated to resemble seagull eggs, or sport jaunty polka dots that have been lovingly hand painted. Customers with magpie tendencies will marvel over the golden egg – a real hen’s eggshell which has been hollowed, gilted and delicately filled with solid praline. Alternatively the beautifully hand crafted Easter bunnies are the perfect gift. Choose from milk, dark or white chocolate, all of which come with hand decorated flowered knapsacks. Chocolate chicks, marshmallow bunnies and hand painted hens are all available to buy individually for a special Easter treat. Chocolate is integral to the history of the iconic Fortnum & Mason Piccadilly store – it is the location where many of the recipes enjoyed today were conceived and crafted dating back to the 1920’s. Easter eggs especially are a source of great pride, and the same silver egg moulds and expert techniques used in the original chocolate recipes are still used today.
