Joseph Cheaney & Sons have just opened their first flagship store on Jermyn Street, the welcome addition forms part of The Crown Estates 500million investment strategy to preserve the heritage and character of the St James area.
Prior to the opening William Church, joint managing director for Cheaney, said: “We are really excited to be opening our new flagship store in the prestigious location of Jermyn Street and working with The Crown Estate. We aim to blend all that is great about our Northamptonshire shoemaking heritage with a contemporary shop-fit that will provide a stimulating experience for our customers.”
After having the pleasure of meeting William Church in the new store today, I can certainly say they have accomplished the job of blending the heritage of the brand with the new shop-fit. It’s a great concept which is well executed.
The new store is divided into two sections; the anterior of the store reflects the industrial heritage of the brand, with a factory feel to the gallery like showroom. Special display cases give insight into the shoe making process and the mechanics of the shoe.

Meanwhile, the rear of the shop resembles a traditional gentleman’s club with walnut and leather décor. The environment is very welcoming and engaging. Images of Joseph and Arthur Cheaney (pictured below, left to right) hang on the walls to greet you while you peruse.
Cheaney are committed to continuing the production of high quality shoes entirely made in Northamptonshire, from the cutting out of the leather to the final polishing, just as it was in 1886. The brand recognises the influence the globally popular Made in England tag has had on the growth of the company.
In recent times Cheaney have also formed partnerships with other luxury brands such as Hackett and Barbour (who are also based in the area) to create exclusive collaboration pieces. It’s definitely worth visiting the store to see the shop layout and the marvellous shoes for yourself.
