Award winning Champagne House, Charles Heidsieck, announces the launch of their ‘Maverick Encounters’event series for 2017/18.
The Maverick Encounters aim to celebrate modern-day ‘mavericks’; individuals who push boundaries, go against the grain and thrive in the face of adversity – all characteristicsthat mirror the House’s legendary enterprising founder, Charles Camille-Heidsieck.
Charles’famed adventurous flair and entrepreneurial spirit resulted in his pivotal success in America in 1852, becoming the first champagne merchant to conquer the market. The memorable parties he used to throw across the country earnt him the moniker ‘Champagne Charlie’. His ability to create a truly unique champagne of character, to pioneer new territories, and challenge conventions made him a maverick of his time, an ethos that is still at the heart ofChampagne Charles Heidsieck today.
To celebrate future generations of ‘Champagne Charlies’, Charles Heidsieck is hosting a series of refined events that will span the worlds of food, craft, fashion and art. The encounters will be partnered with individuals they believe to be modern equivalents of the founder, or ‘mavericks’;celebrating the innovation that has reinvigorated their respective fields. Each encounter will allow guests to meet extraordinary people they may not have heard of or had access to before, while learning more about what makes them special.
Executive director Stephen Leroux says,“Maverick Encounters highlight the spirit at the heart of our Champagne House. Our ethos is centered around an open mind, a quest for excellence and a willingness to share our unique ‘savoir-faire’.Our mavericks are people that recognize this and bring the same attitude to their own fields.Maverick Encounters was set up to try and discover entrepreneurs and talents who are already writing their own story, and perhaps without knowing it, their own legend – just as our founder did centuries ago.”
The first Maverick Encounter will focus onthe industrial and highly skilled Blenheim Forge, highlighting the trio of knife producers’ mastery of Japanese steel and artistic flair. Guests will enjoy a hands-on experience in knife craft in the forge where the trio work, and enjoy food prepared with their razor-sharp knives.
In September, Charles will partner with South London based papercutartist and illustrator, Poppy Chancellor, known to those in the know as Poppy Papercuts. The workshop will provide guests with an insight into Poppy’s intricate, beautiful and sometimes risqué designs that have revitalised the paper cutting scene.
October will take the encounters north,to visit Great British Menu contestant Paul Askew at his restaurant, ‘The Art School’.Attendees will have the chance to see up close the culinary skills ofthe chef hoping to bring Liverpool its first Michelin star.
Back in London in November, the fourth encounter will take place in the shop and studio of acclaimed fashion designer, Joshua Kane. An intimate occasion with one of fashion’s most charismatic and exciting designers, who recently pulled off the mostattended fashion show in London Fashion Week historyat the Palladium Theatre.
