“I’ll have an Athenaeum please!” will now be the order of choice at the five star London hotel’s famous Whisky Bar. Not satisfied with over 300 whiskies to choose from The Athenaeum Hotel and Apartments has now developed its very own blend….

The Athenaeum is an 8-Year Old blend of Speyside and Highland malts, designed to please the sophisticated palate of its regulars. “We have whisky aficionados from all over the world who visit our bar on a regular basis,” … “and we have a pretty good fix on what they like” commented The Athenaeum’s Whisky Sommelier.

The Athenaeum Hotel turned to The Great Whisky Company and Berry Bros. & Rudd to help turn their vision into a reality. A tasting was conducted with six different blends, each created based on the flavour profiles that the hotel wanted to convey – something discreet and personal but also lavish and unique.

The final result is a blend of predominantly Speyside malts with Highland malt added to give an element of spice.  The whiskies were matured in sherry and bourbon casks to add a touch of smoke.

The fruity nose boasts citrus, toasted oats, honey and nuts. The palate broadens with a progressive build-up of creamy malt, more nuttiness and sustained rich fruitiness leading to an elegant finish. A classic blend designed for a classic Mayfair hotel.

The hotel’s Whisky Bar features over 300 whiskies from around the world – one of the finest collections in London. To accompany the extensive whisky offering, there is a light snack menu and whisky and cheese pairing.

The exclusive blend will be available in the Whisky Bar and in miniature form in the complimentary mini bars found in The Athenaeums bedrooms, suites and apartments.
