Recently we visited Bellamy’s the Franco-Belgian brasserie on Bruton Place in Mayfair. The restaurant is currently the only restaurant in history that the Queen has dined at since her coronation (excluding private members clubs and hotels). It has also been lauded Most Civilised Restaurant in the Tatler Restaurant Awards.

On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who seated us at our table. Once seated we ordered a house cocktail which perked us up as we’d be traipsing around London all day. To start we nibbled on the Foie Gras Terrine which arrived quite quickly and tasted delicious.

To accompany our meal we drank a delightful glass of Château Carignan Premières Côtes de Bordeaux 2008 which had caramel and ripe red berry fruit aromas and complimented our menu choices nicely. The restaurant has an unashamedly French wine list, with familiar names at reasonable prices.

The room had quite a buzz and we spotted a few stylish young fashion types dining there. We were pleased to be seated on the benches toward the back of the restaurant. Sat on the table opposite us was the very stylish Rose Easton, creative director of the Phoebe English label, celebrating her fathers birthday.

We chose the Grilled Paillard of Veal aux Girolles for the main as the waiter had recommended it. We were happy with the recommendation as the Veal was cooked perfectly and the grolles added a brilliant flavour to the dish. The restaurants menu changes weekly so there are lots of options available for regulars.

For pudding we welcomed a Peach Melba to the table- it was quite refreshing and light and not too sweet.

The restaurant is agelessly elegant and was designed by Tim Flynn, who has produced a fresh and modern take on the Franco Belgian brasserie tradition.

The Parisian-inspired décor incorporates Swiss, French and Italian vintage posters, golden lamps and classic wood-paneled booths. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Bellamy’s and would recommend visiting for any occasion- did we mention they have a fantastic bar too?
